Look to the Mountains
2020
A montage of a mountain range depicting the Japanese Sendai landscape, composed from ink stamped vegetable imprints on a white silk cloth banner.
This 5.7x 1.2m art piece was made for Hoshun Sushi Kaiseki, a Japanese fine dining restaurant offering kaiseki and sushi omakase. Displayed in the main dining area, it depicts the Sendai landscape, the hometown of the restaurant’s chef. The mountain range is made of ink prints from cut out vegetables, stamped repeatedly on silky white cloth. The calmness and serenity of this piece evokes a hushed and comfortable ambience that harmonises with the dining experience.
